Flow

Flow — Self-Portrait

Flow emerged from my experience of living in a new country after being forced to relocate. Without work and the social connections that had previously structured my life, I came to feel outside the flow of ordinary life.

The project explores this experience through different artistic media: painting, sound, photography, and an archive. Each approaches the same period from a different perspective.

The self-portrait at the top of the page was taken with an old linden tree I pass on my walks. At some point I started greeting it, and now I speak to it whenever I pass. Without really noticing it, I had made the tree part of a small social world of my own.

Composed from recordings of my footsteps during solitary evening walks, traffic heard from my apartment, and falling water drops.
